Reviews
“Pierre-Adrien Charpy takes up the challenge of moving the listener with music that pays its debt to the past whilst being very much of our time. Its orchestration intelligently and subtly blends the sounds of an original combination of instruments; the daring innovations of style are very attractive, and the contemplative scenes are captivating, such as the very animated “battle” scene. The large audience gave this new work a well-deserved enthusiastic reception.”
Philippe Herlin, reviewing the oratorio LE PREMIER REVE DE MARTIN LUTHER KING in “La lettre du musicien” and ConcertoNet.
“Pierre-Adrien Charpy’s music contributes to this fairytale world and serves as a leading thread between the marvellous, idyllic world of the sea and that “other world” of the earth, which is human, fascinating and painful”
Odile Martin reviewing LA PETITE SIRENE adapted from Hans Christian Andersen by Olivier Cohen. Narrated by Ludivine Sagnier. Musical composition: Pierre-Adrien Charpy. “Coup de Coeur” awarded by the Académie Charles Cros.
“Notable among the three works premièred this evening was Pierre-Adrien Charpy’s “MATAR, NO TE MATARIA”, based on Andalusian poems. Its melodic motifs, evoking Andalusian modes ornamented without clichés and with vivid colours, were rendered with a velvety legato by the soprano and then suddenly broken by the violence of the text (“tu eres mujer, yo soy hombre”). There are echoes of the accents so dear to Falla (Asturiana), the jagged intense line: a carnal osmosis with the flute, in the spirit of the Cante hondo with its final “Ay!” in a sublime decrescendo: a great success!” Yves Bergé, “Zibeline”.
